SPORTS PRODUCTION GUIDE
How to create an awesome video ...

Sports videos are a valuable tool in helping high school students receive scholarships.  A professional done sports video cannot guarantee you a scholarship at the school of your choice, but it will help you to be seen and remembered.  Whether for college or professional recruitment, a sports video on DVD will allow a coach to quickly review any part of your video without the hassles you have with tapes.  Our engineer incorporates your athletic video footage and photos to music from our soundtrack collection to produce your professional sports highlight film; also included are a few special effects (nothing that takes the focus away from the person in the video) that will keep the coach's attention.  A scholarship can be worth thousands of dollars, investing is a sports recruitment video is well worth it.

To achieve optimal results for an outstanding scholastic video, please consider the following tips listed in our production guide below. We also encourage you to use your own creative ideas to give your video a more personal touch.

Video Footage Tips and Ideas..

When shooting game footage yourself using your own personal camcorder be sure to use a superior quality camera to capture the best, most clear footage possible. Here's some tips to follow when shooting your own video footage:

  • When shooting, start recording early and keep recording about 10 seconds after the play ends.
  • Avoid leaving "snow" or any blank space in your video.
  • In general, closer shots are always better than wider shots.

  • Using a tripod will keep your shots more stable and your video more enjoyable to watch.

Consider hiring someone to record your footage if you are unable to do it yourself or contact your local cable company and ask if you could possibly acquire some footage they may have used in a previous broadcast.

You may also obtain high quality video footage by asking your head coach for game, practice or showcase footage. If your high school doesn't have quality films call your opponents and ask to buy their film, sometimes they'll loan or even give it to you. When putting together a scholastic recruiting video to impress coaches think ESPN Plays of the Week and put the best plays first.

We accept a few different video formats to incorporate into your scholarship recruiting video.
- VHS Tapes
- Standard DVD's
- Mini "Camcorder" DVD's (Please ensure to "FINALIZE" all DVD's and Mini DVD's).

We prefer to work from the original video for quality, but we can also use footage from copies.

College coaches receive tons of video footage from high school athletes. They simply do not have the time to view hours of video on each prospect. Coaches prefer a collection of short highlight reels to determine if you are a good match. If you are, they will often request a full game video.

How to Create your Personal Profile...

Video footage alone will not make an impression on college coaches. You must provide factual information about yourself to give the coach more insight on who you are and how to contact you. We list your personal information within your highlight video itself, on the actual DVD face and on the DVD case (Please note that ALL personal information will not fit on the DVD face and case.)
  • Personal and parental contact information: names, addresses, phone numbers and emails.
  • High school, address and phone number.
  • Coach and Guidance counselor's phone numbers and email addresses.
  • Age, weight, height, class and jersey number.
  • GPA, Class Rank, SAT and/or ACT scores if available.
  • Academic and service achievements and honors.
  • Statistical accomplishments.

Here's what we need to begin production..

ALJ Productions uses your video footage clips and combines them with a great musical soundtrack. We use footage that has been recorded on your own personal dvd's, mini (camcorder) dvd's and vhs tapes, we prefer to work from the originals but we can also use copies. We will ask that you go through your footage and select 10 to 15 short video clips that highlight the player's best plays. Place each highlight in the order in which you wish for each highlight to appear. If you are using dvd's for example, please take note where the play begins and ends by using the counter on your dvd player. If you have multiple dvd's and your dvd has more than one chapter, please let us know which dvd, chapter and where the footage is located in minutes and seconds.

For Example:

Highlight 1: Located on Dvd 1 - Chapter 2 - Play Starts at 23:04 and Ends at 23:48
Highlight 2: Located on Dvd 2 - Chapter 1 - Play Starts at 17:37 and Ends at 18:01
Highlight 3: Located on Dvd 1 - Chapter 3 - Play Starts at 02:13 and Ends at 02:33

This tells us exactly where to find the footage that you wish to use in your highlight video.
Supply us with the player's contact info, statistics and a still photo of the player in uniform to place on the dvd and case.

We also offer the option of playing "Instant Replay Clips" (clips that appear in normal speed and then in slow motion) throughout your highlight video. You may also consider some clips being shown in slow motion only, the slow motion aspect makes great plays look even better! With our level of experience, we can pick and choose which clips would look best in slow motion or you can decide for yourself.

Please refer to our for Production Guide for more helpful production tips and ideas. Plan ahead, order your video at least 4 weeks prior to when you need your video produced so that we may have sufficient time to make changes if needed. Be sure to place your order form and materials in a strong and secure envelope or box and ship to ASVP.

If we shoot the video: (Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex only)
Video - $100/Hour (1 hr. minimum)

Editing:  $225
DVDs and CDs:  $15 each or  $10 each in quantities of 10 or more
Example:  Shooting ($100), editing ($225) and 10 DVDs ($100) would be $425.
